Want to Lead the Future?
Our mentor program allows current college-aged rowers to mentor the youth rowers and help them find a great path to a bright future.
Our Mission
DIRA is committed to the ideal of making the world a better place through in-depth, first-person experiences where rowing can advance a better understanding of the world in which we all live. It’s dedicated to providing international experiences to all youths, regardless of economic status, race, religion, or any other bias. Athletics, language, culture, and history are intertwined to help today’s youths become true global citizens of tomorrow.
“As a young kid, I had coaches that took me under their wing and looked out for me and showed me what I could do. I want to give back to the youth of today!”
— Jim Dietz - Former DI coach for 35+ years
Mentors and Chaperones
Mentors will be assistant coaches or mature college rowers that can assist in the coaching, as well as interact to share about rowing in college.
Foreign Language skills are helpful when applying as a mentor.
Mentors and Chaperones will undergo background checks as well as SafeSport training.
Two-Deep leadership will always be enforced.
The goal of international travel is to be safe, open one’s eyes to different cultures with the chance to stop, learn and enjoy what is being seen.
The leadership team is here to guide, not do. Rowers will have a chance to figure things out away from the boats, like how to use the train or even just order a gelato!
Living and meeting new people should be enjoyed at a natural pace, no rushing.
