Mission

Quite simply, we create opportunities for the youths of one country to visit those of another through the sport of rowing. By bringing young people together in new and interesting places, we can create a better world.

Our Mission

DIRA is committed to the ideal of making the world a better place through in-depth, first-person experiences where rowing can advance a better understanding of the world in which we all live. It’s dedicated to providing international experiences to all youths, regardless of economic status, race, religion, or any other bias. Athletics, language, culture, and history are intertwined to help today’s youths become true global citizens of tomorrow.

“Rowing is a very special sport. There is only offense in our sport and the fastest on any given day win, no one can slow down the opponent, only make oneself better.”

— Jim Dietz - DIRA Chairman of the Board

Goals for DIRA

  • Bring youth rowers from the United States to foreign countries to showcase NOT how good America is, but to learn how similar ALL countries are.

  • Bring youth rowers from foreign countries to the USA to enhance cultural exchange and understanding through the sport of rowing.

  • Create a sense of understanding and appreciation for the sport of rowing through sharing time on and off the water with people from around the world.

  • Visit, learn, grow, and understand as young citizens of the world, so that the future can be more meaningful to all.

  • Break down barriers and stereotypes through first person learning and exploring of new cultures and ways of life.
