Rowing in the USA

Bringing youth from around the world to the USA is an important function of DIRA.

Blue Springs, Florida

Blue Springs, Florida

Florida

The United States has active rowing programs in nearly every state and one of the busiest is Florida. New teams are popping up all across the state, and while it may not have the traditions of Boston, or Philadelphia or Seattle, Central Florida has been host to teams from around the country. Its mild winter climate, great water and Southern charm is inviting and welcomes rowers upon every return. DIRA’s home base is DeLand, Florida located an easy 60 min north of Orlando International Airport and is home to manatees, birds and amazing rowing. Teams and groups from Europe and beyond will love to visit.

The Charles, Boston

The Charles, Boston

Massachusetts

When most non-rowers hear the term ‘rowing’, they immediately think Boston, Harvard, the Charles! We often think the same thing and bringing youth rowers from around the world to this great American town is one of our goals. Boston has so much history, culture, and yes, the Charles, but rowing on the Connecticut River or Lake Quinsigamond are also top-notch. Hosting young rowers from various parts of the world and helping them understand the diversity of a state like Massachusetts will be amazing.

Oak Ridge, Tennessee

Oak Ridge, Tennessee

Tennessee

Tennessee is not often considered a strong rowing destination, however with one of the few Class-A courses in the country, along with several D1 rowing programs, it has a lot to offer. The state also served as a former training ground for the U.S Women’s National Team. Offering a gateway to America’s Appalachian region, visitors to Tennessee can also gain insight into the frontier way of life, in the Smoky Mountains and the active lifestyle around Chattanooga, not to mention immerse themselves in the music of Nashville. There is a lot a young rower from anywhere can learn.
